CAUCUS FAQ
I'm new to this. What is a caucus?

Across Minneapolis, the DFL holds caucuses and conventions to endorse candidates and set priorities for the party. Participants will support Jeremy and discuss Ward 11 issues at a caucus on the evening of April 4. Mark your calendar! The caucus itself is filled with lively discussion, and provides a great opportunity for you and your neighbors to influence the local election and speak about what matters to you.

Where is the caucus? What time will it be at?

DFL caucuses for all Ward 11 precincts will at Washburn High School (201 W 49th Street, Minneapolis) starting at 6:30 pm. If you can't attend the caucus, but you would like to be a delegate to the Ward 11 DFL Convention on Saturday, April 29, please fill out this absentee form.

After caucus comes the Ward 11 DFL Convention, to be held on Saturday, April 29 at Washburn H.S. If you plan to serve as a delegate there, registration begins at 9 a.m. and the convention gets underway at 10 a.m.

Does the caucus decide anything?

At the caucus, you have the opportunity to volunteer to be a delegate to the Ward 11 convention on Saturday, April 29. By raising your hand and writing down your contact info, someone from the DFL will follow up with your official invite to the Ward 11 convention. If more people volunteer to be delegates than there is space, then there’s a conversation about who goes. Don’t worry if it’s your first time caucusing. You’ll be surrounded by friendly neighbors, and everyone there will help you through the process.

Can I caucus for Jeremy?

Sure, if you live in Ward 11 and you’ll be 18 or older on Election Day (Nov. 7, 2017). You can check this map to find out if you live in the ward.

Why does Jeremy need me to help?

The caucus represents the first major milestone in Jeremy’s campaign. Your support on April 4 will help him secure the DFL endorsement at the convention on April 29, putting him in the best position to represent you on the Minneapolis City Council. Your participation in the democratic process really matters -- especially at this critical point. You will have a direct impact on making sure Jeremy can advocate for you at City Hall.

How much of a commitment is this for me?

At a minimum, all you have to do is show up and support Jeremy at your precinct’s caucus on April 4. If you want to go a step further and volunteer to be a delegate -- which would be the biggest help to the campaign -- you’ll also want to block off Saturday, April 29 for the Ward 11 convention. If you’d like to help Jeremy’s campaign in other ways, definitely let us know. We’d be happy to have you on board!

Can I bring friends and family to caucus too?

You bet, as long as they also live in Ward 11 and will be at least 18 years old on Election Day -- that means 17-year-olds with birthdays on or before Nov. 7 can also join the fun. The more, the merrier!

How do I know Jeremy is the right choice for me?
